Subject: I love your travelogues

Hi Mark,

This is Sandhya here. I have been reading your travelogue.

I am from Chennai, and i live in Bangalore right now.

I love your writing style, and am inspired by you. I travel a bit, and i have started writing notes on the places i visit.

But, in some places, you have been rude about the places that you visited in India. What to do, India is a poor country, with a huge population, and hence, things are difficult here.

Anyway, i stopped by to say that, you are too good, as far as your writing goes.

With best regards,
Sandhya

Hi Sandhya.

I'm delighted that you like my travelogues, and I'm even happier that you've taken the time to let me know. Many thanks - it's comments like yours that make all the effort of maintaining a website like this worthwhile.

I'm not sure I'd agree that I've necessarily been rude about some of the places I've visited, but I've certainly been critical, and in some places, I've ripped into them remorselessly. I believe in being honest about my feelings in my writing, which does mean I'm sometimes not that positive about places I visit, but I'd rather be honest than nice all the time - that would be terribly boring...

Anyway, thanks again for posting, and I hope you enjoy exploring your wonderful country as much as I did. I have great memories of India; what an amazing place! 😀

Best wishes and happy travels,

Mark

Hi Sandhya.

I'm afraid that this site is pretty much all there is, but I do have plans for more in the future.

First, I'm going to Cuba in March this year, and assuming there's enough to write about, I'll publish my stories here over the following months.

Second, I am hoping to create a new website this year containing writing and photos from 2002, when I walked across Britain. I think this will contain my best writing yet, but it will take a while to finish off.

Finally, there are two sections on my other site - www.longdistancewalks.com - which don't appear here (they are Land's End to John o'Groats and the London Loop). They're mainly aimed at long-distance walkers rather than fans of travel writing, but you might like to take a look.

That's it, though! I'm really glad you've enjoyed reading my site, and do pop back to see how things went in Cuba...

Best wishes,

Mark

Hi Mark,

How are you ?

I was reading 'History of Cyprus' which u have written.

Why have u not written a 'History of India'. U must have spend more time in India than any where else, coz, u have visited almost all the places worth going to.... even Indians cannot imagine visiting all of them.

So, why not a 'History of India'. Trust me, it will be very interesting.

Hi Mark,

I saw ur history of India, along with the important HIndu gods.....But, it is too brief.

Also, would like to point out something interesting to u. The 10 avatars that Vishnu took, the first few were of animal forms....fish, tortoise, boar etc...they follow the theory of evolution principal...interesting, isn't it.

Hi Sandhya.

If I had the time to write a comprehensive history of India, I wouldn't have any time left to travel!

Seriously, though, the piece I wrote was only intended to give a very quick background to Indian history and the Hindu pantheon, so readers can understand me when I refer to the more popular gods or big events in Indian history. That's why it's so brief; it's a potted history, I guess. It's not supposed to be a full history, because there are plenty of better sites than mine covering that subject. Meanwhile, I can concentrate on recounting my travel experiences! 😀

I didn't know that about the avatars of Vishnu, either - very interesting. I've a lot to learn about Hinduism...

Best wishes,

Mark
