Subject: LEJOG planned for 2023

Hi there Mark. Thank you so much for posting this. Am fascinated by your account of your walk in 2003 and am planning to take your route in 2023 with my husband Tim Rice (not that one) and our two cocker spaniels. We'll be raising money for Zero Suicide Alliance and to commemorate my brother David (as documented in my memoir No Place to Lie). Am even wondering about starting out on the same date that you did, although it'll probably take us longer as we're in our sixties and also hoping to organise talks along the route. Did you think the timing worked well for you by setting off in May. We were also wondering about starting in March. Any tips welcome!
Many thanks, Helen

Hi Helen.

Good luck with that! Sounds like a great plan.

I was really happy with leaving in May, yes. The weather in May, June and July is normally pretty good for walking, and I had plenty of spare time in the summer in case I overran. You could easily move it a month later if you wanted, and April is also pretty good, though it can be a bit colder (like this year). I was happy, though!

Good luck with the planning.

All the best,

Mark
